EP IL, Days 2 and 3

Scarlett has spent a lot of time at various parks over the past two days.  She's doing all sorts of climbing and slide-going.

And it's been HOT.  Today it was 100 degrees, and humid.  Charlie ran 15 miles.  Scar played in a fountain.  We went to Mike and Kim's rehearsal dinner.  Scarlett then spent the evening eating popsicles and playing in the garden with her grandma and grandpa.

And now, for anyone (you know who you are) that might be considering a cross-country move, here are a few of the many things that make Portland a happier home for us than Chicago.

1. No Turn on Red- what is with all these signs?  In PDX, we turn on red all over the place.
2. The stifling humidity.  It's awful, and we don't have any of that at home.
3. Fried pie.  So far, I haven't seen any fried pie carts in Chicago.  BOOO

Although, you're more likely to run over a cyclist in Portland probably...because there are some.

  1. what the heck is fried pie? and who knew about the no turn on red. you can do it in iowa. i hate to tell you this, but you missed a pretty awesome first ever doggett labor day weekend banana split extravaganza. but, since the whipped cream and the homemade fudge sauce were both huge fails, we're bound to have a do-over... possibly next labor day weekend. the banana splits were lovely anyway, especially with strawberries, pineapple, peaches, (not homemade) fudge sauce, caramel sauce, 4 kinds of nuts, choco covered pomegranate and sunflower seeds, and 2 kinds of cherries on top, not to mention a dinner of roasted all kinds of veg and corn on the cob. i think hope preferred the corn.
