Scar-ism: rose edition

"The rose garden is not a PARK, mom.  It's a garden of roses."

Today, Scarlett decided to wear a tutu with a rose on it, because it's Esther's birthday and her middle name is Rose.

Scarlett vs. the buffet

The Grandparents are here from Chicago and there's been a whirlwind week of bike rides, late nights, a trip to the beach, lunches out, etc etc.  I asked Scarlett about her trip to Timberline Lodge and she described it as something like this:

there were tables of food. you don't order the food.  you just go and there are tables of food already and you just pick what you want.

Scarlett, meet "the buffet"

Last Day of School

Today is my baby girl's last day of school. Her first year of school, her last day, she's so big but so little at the same time.  I asked how she feels about school ending and she said, a little sad.

Of the many things that have happened this year, the biggest is a transformation in the way she interacts with other kids.
  • She's made a BFF, Oscar, but he will be going to a different school next year.  They build germ jails (me: "What's a germ jail?" her: "It's a jail for germs.") and eat lunch together most days.  They traipsed through the forest on a recent camping trip and rode scooters and played in their own world without us.
  • She looks up to the kindergartners, says they are her favorite people in the whole world.
  • She works on something called binomial cube.  And recently, the trinomial cube!
  • She paints, a lot.  A prolific amount of art comes home in her folder every week.  She cuts and glues, she does watercolor, she brings pictures of germ jails to us.
  • She does knot-tying, and needlepoint, a burlap stitch.  The burlap stitch means she brings home fabric cut-outs that make cute bookmarks.

This morning, she said she was excited for her first summer break.  She also said that she would be my best friend as long as I love her.  And I said, I will always love you!

Jump

This is the moveable alphabet- and Scarlett's first take at it.  It's a Montessori tool that kids use as they're starting to put sounds together to make words.
