Slumber Party

Scarlett had her first slumber party last weekend.  She stayed overnight with her cousins while Charlie and I went to a wedding, dressed up all fancy like adults.  We've done varying degrees of this- someone else putting her to sleep at our house, or the Bend trip where we were running and she stayed overnight at a rental house with Erin & Ramona.  But this was the first official time that she stayed elsewhere, and we were at home.

We've been talking about this slumber party for weeks, about how exciting it will be to sleep in Hope's bed and how big girls get slumber parties, etc etc.

When I asked her how it was afterwards, she told me the following:

"They have an orange potty".
"There was stars in her room."
"I ate dinner."
"I ate a hog dog and I had my bun toasted."

Fascinating stuff!

FountainFace

Summer is ending, so Scarlett might be temporarily done with her favorite activity of the season- putting her face in fountains.

And I mean, directly into the bursting flow of water.  She has no fear.

Somebody's Getting Married

My little cousin Patrick, who is not so little anymore, got married this weekend in Spokane.  This meant many things, among them, that Scarlett went to her first wedding.  [Retraction: This was not her first wedding.  She was at a wedding last summer and got very muddy. Emily, 10/24/12] We stayed in a fancypants hotel with a giant bath tub.  Scarlett slept on a mattress on the floor, with Pooh sheets and a Pooh blanket, which made her very happy.  We let her put her feet in the hot tub, when nobody else was around.  But then we couldn't take her back to the pool, because we knew she'd try to put her feet in the hot tub again, with other people who might frown upon that.

On Friday, we took her to a park we went to when I was a kid, when we visited my grandparents.  There's a carousel that is WAY faster than the Oaks Park carousel we're used to.  There is a metal goat that vacuums things up through his nose.  There's a giant wagon with a slide coming out.  It is all sorts of fun.  The goat sounds like a fan, and Scar told me she was afraid of it, but she kept wanting to go back and see it.  Facing her fears, such a big girl.

What an attractive family I've got!
For most of our trip, Scarlett wanted Grandma.  I want Grandma to take me to the potty.  I want Grandma to braid my hair.  No, don't put on my shoes, I want Grandma to.  On the night of the wedding, after the ceremony and dinner, she was happy to go back to the hotel and have Grandma & Grandpa put her to bed.

This is my Granny!

The flower girl did great.  The ring bearer needed a little more assistance in actually getting down the aisle.  He's not even two yet though, and he looked rockin' in that suit.  (Both these kids belong to cousins of mine.)

What would a wedding blog post be, without a bride shot?

So my little cousin is now married and also a lot taller than me.
I asked Scarlett what her favorite part was, about our trip.  I thought maybe, the cake with purple frosting.  Or hanging out with Grandma.  She said:

"The Winnie the Pooh bed."
Anything else?
"I like the shower."

Car talk

Talking to crayons that fell onto the floor, "Crayons, you don't live down there!  You live in the crayon box!."

Directed to me, when I picked one cheerio out of the cup, "I was gonna eat that cheerio."
