Scarlett, age 4

Dear Scarlett,

On your fourth birthday, you woke up early.  We have a 7am rule in our house- this has helped you get a little extra sleep and be cheerful for school, and it's been pretty nice for your dad and I too.  But you woke up closer to 6, excited because you were four, and anxious to start the day.  We made smoothies and you rode your new bike around the living room.  We tried to go for a ride around the block, but your pedaling skills need a little work, so we just went to the corner and back.  You have the new bike, new bike bell, new green helmet.

We went to the pool.  You made friends with another little girl who shared her snacks, so you shared yours.

You ate a lollipop and some chocolates.

Then, for the big event, your cousins came over for a sleepover.  You were so excited to wear your giant, flannel, Christmas-themed nightgown that we pulled from a box of hand-me-downs.  You wore it for most of the evening, dinner, bedtime, and then the next night too.  It had glue on it, so now it's finally in the wash.  We had sushi and a chocolate cake with green frosting, and frogs drawn on top.  You decorated it and said the cousins will be amazed when they see it.

You like to talk about things as if they're a story.  "Let's walk across the street, I said while walking".  You still love frogs best, but also princesses and fairies too.  You want to wear a pretty dress every day.  Second choice is a shirt with sequins and a tutu skirt.  You're really into Where's Waldo books and playing dress-us.  I asked what your favorite things are, you said 'hugging mama'.

I love you for always!
Mama
