Spring Program
Spring program at Scarlett's school meant cute songs about butterflies and leaves and critters, and the preschool kids wearing butterfly costumes. Hers was purple and yellow, I'm surprised she even put it on.

Songs, by Scarlett
"Frogs on a bench
Are the huggiest frogs
newer
we are the hoppiest frogs in the world
we are the happiest frogs in the world
and in the last few weeks
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee were dancing on a bench
which was our favorite red bench
we were humming [indecipherable]
there’s a second bench we have
we lived in the city
there was one bench in the city that we loved to visit"
"the next part of the same song
frogs on the red bench
oh how the frogs loved their bench super much
I don’t liiiiike to love things for a whole life said one of
the frogs
But we love red bench"
(Also a song called) “Wipers through the window doors”
All sorts of instruments that could play in the night and
day (repeats this)

Don't Drink the Water
There was a whole hullabaloo in PDX this weekend- over the holiday, of course- where ecoli was found in the water supply and everyone went on alert. Don't drink the water, boil everything, throw away all the ice you've made in the past 3 days. Etc. Luckily, we were heading out of town and only had to deal with it for about 6 hours.
We told Scarlett the water wasn't clean and that we'd use bottled water for a little bit. But, she must have heard us talking about the details because once we returend home from our trip, she said, I think it has that person poop in it. A person accidentally pooped in the water.
Oh my dear, I love her so much.
We went to Bend, where the water was clean. Heather and I ran a half-marathon through the hills and dusty trails of Bend, and it was hard, but at the finish I was greeted with the sweetest smile and hug from my little lass. She will hug me tight even when I'm sweaty and covered in trail dust. That is unconditional love, right there.
Then we took a 7-person ride in a surry, and what I pictured was a jolly, peaceful ride around the waterfront. Mostly though it was complaining about how hard it is to pedal (me), complaining about where they were sitting (kids), concern that Charlie was going to drive us into an embankment (Heather), etc. But LOOK! It's a SURRY WITH A FRINGE ON TOP! Who wouldn't have fun in that??!!
Scarlett did a kid race the day before our run- Heather's daughter ran with her, though "ran" is a loose term. Scarlett's running is mostly bouncing, hopping, laughing, and overall moving pretty slowly. She has this exuberance, it makes me so happy to watch her.
At the race expo, the girls made fairy wands and fancy bracelets, ate snacks, bounced in bouncy-houses, and got a whole lotta vitamin D.

Scar-ism
"Do rocket ships have windows? Are they like airplanes except they go up to
the moon instead? I really want to see
the moon closer up."
I told her, I'm not going into space, and I would miss you if you went.
"You could at least come to outer space with me and help me count until we take off."

Ella Turns Five
At Ella's birthday party, "I wish I was one of Ella's OTHER friends so I could play with her more."
Our weekend contained:
Our weekend contained:
- Fancy princess-style dresses and playing with pixie dust
- Playing in the sand (followed by several showers and baths with head-scrubbing to get the sand out. There is still sand in the hair, on her pillow, all around our house.)
- Bobbing for apples
- Pin the tail on the donkey (As seen in the picture below, Scarlett ran excitedly toward the wall and bumped right into it. We all laughed. I think she didn't notice.)
- Chocolate cake, madelines, almond ring cake
- The girls sleeping in a fort Johan made under her top bunk.
- Pajama swapping
