A Poem
"I learned another poem in my heart it's called The Heart and the Bumblebees Love Each Other
The frog and the person
me, the frog and Hope the princess
they can hop again and they love to run to the ocean"

Scarlett, age 4
Dear Scarlett,
On your fourth birthday, you woke up early. We have a 7am rule in our house- this has helped you get a little extra sleep and be cheerful for school, and it's been pretty nice for your dad and I too. But you woke up closer to 6, excited because you were four, and anxious to start the day. We made smoothies and you rode your new bike around the living room. We tried to go for a ride around the block, but your pedaling skills need a little work, so we just went to the corner and back. You have the new bike, new bike bell, new green helmet.
We went to the pool. You made friends with another little girl who shared her snacks, so you shared yours.
You ate a lollipop and some chocolates.
Then, for the big event, your cousins came over for a sleepover. You were so excited to wear your giant, flannel, Christmas-themed nightgown that we pulled from a box of hand-me-downs. You wore it for most of the evening, dinner, bedtime, and then the next night too. It had glue on it, so now it's finally in the wash. We had sushi and a chocolate cake with green frosting, and frogs drawn on top. You decorated it and said the cousins will be amazed when they see it.
You like to talk about things as if they're a story. "Let's walk across the street, I said while walking". You still love frogs best, but also princesses and fairies too. You want to wear a pretty dress every day. Second choice is a shirt with sequins and a tutu skirt. You're really into Where's Waldo books and playing dress-us. I asked what your favorite things are, you said 'hugging mama'.
I love you for always!

Her Birthday Eve
Today I told Scarlett, this is the last time I will ever hug you at breakfast while you're three. The next time I hug you at breakfast, you'll be four. This made her very happy. It's her birthday eve, but she calls it 'my birthday Christmas eve'
FOUR!
While I was on the East Coast, snow happened in Portland. Sledding happened. After one sledding venture to Mt. Tabor, Scarlett was so exhausted that she fell asleep on the sled while we pulled it down a noisy street, two miles back to our house.

Logan-isms
My adorable nephew Logan watched me put my hair in a pony tail. He said, 'wow, you do that fast. you're like a super hero.'
When we were playing with blocks, he told his mom that he was going to build, and 'you supervise'. Supervise is such a cute word to hear a little kid say!
I miss my frog. It's snowing in Portland, but if all turns out well, I'll be hugging her and the handsome guy with the mohawk by tomorrow night. This has been my longest trip away from Scarlett ever.

Scar-ism
Scarlett went on a school field trip today to see the Charlotte's Web play, the first class trip she's been on without Charlie or I as a chaperone. Aunt Sally picked her up after. She said,
"My favorite part was the spider! She could climb and I was amazed!"
Update: I'm on the East Coast so I spoke to Scarlett a few minutes ago, before bed. Sometimes it's hard to discern exactly what she's saying over the phone. But it sounded like "the spider named Scarlett was my favorite part."
